1 Peter

This portion of Al-Kitab takes its name from its author, the apostle Peter (pbuh). He wrote this letter to followers of ‘Isa al-Masih who were living in Asia Minor (modern-day Turkey). It was written to give comfort to people suffering persecution for their faith in ‘Isa al-Masih. No doubt, the original readers were the subject of many insults and jokes by disbelievers because they followed ‘Isa Ibn Maryam. For many of these believers, the future held nothing but prison, material and property loss, torture, or death. But they would be able endure all this because they have a certain hope for the future through their faith in ‘Isa al-Masih. The apostle Peter (pbuh) counsels them about proper relationships with disbelievers, their country, family, and other believers. They must live as genuine followers of ‘Isa al-Masih.
