Amos

This portion of Al-Kitab takes its name from its writer, Prophet Amos (pbuh). He was a simple shepherd and farmer, living at a time when the northern kingdom of Israel was one of the most properous and influential countries in the region. Its capital city, Samaria was a major business and commercial centre. Many of its people were affluent and materialistic. Businessmen were corrupt and people of influence oppressed others for their own benefit. Injustice was everywhere. Many people had no thought for religion, whereas others were deeply involved in idol worship. Allah sent Prophet Amos (pbuh) to tell Bani-Israel that this state of affairs cannot continue and that judgment is coming.
