1 Timothy

This portion of Al-Kitab takes its name from the person to whom it was originally written–Timothy. Timothy was a young man from Asia Minor (modern-day Turkey) who had become a follower of ‘Isa al-Masih. His mother was Jewish and his father was Greek. Timothy had accompanied the apostle Paul (pbuh) on his journeys as his assistant. Now Timothy was on his own as a leader in the work of Allah. Paul (pbuh) wrote this letter to Timothy to give him advice on how to do his work well. He warned Timothy about false teachers. He gave teaching on how to direct the worship in the local congregation in areas such as prayer, the place of women, qualifications of leaders, and the care of widows. Besides these things, Paul (pbuh) writes so that Timothy will be an exemplary servant of Allah’s people and know how to respond to the various kinds of people in a local congregation.
