Matthew

This portion of Al-Kitab takes its name from its author, the apostle Matthew (pbuh). Matthew (pbuh) was one of the 12 close companions of ‘Isa al-Masih whom he appointed to be apostles or messengers. He was an eyewitness of all that ‘Isa Ibn Maryam taught and did, right up to the end. This first section of the holy Injilestablishes a strong connection between the TauratZabur, and Injil. First, it announces that ‘Isa Ibn Maryam is descended from both Prophets Ibrahim and Dawud (peace be on them). Further, it reveals that ‘Isa Ibn Maryam is al-Masih–the Messiah sent from Allah for whom Bani-Israel had been waiting. It portrays ‘Isa IbnMaryam as the great teacher of Allah’s law and kingdom. In the last section, it describes the betrayal, death, burial, resurrection, and return to heaven of ‘Isa IbnMaryam. More of ‘Isa al-Masih‘s special teachings are recorded in Matthew than anywhere else in the holy Injil. A famous example is the Sermon on the Mount in chapters 5 to 7. Also, Matthew contains the famous prayer of ‘Isa al-Masih known as “the Lord’s Prayer” (6:9-13).
