1YAHWEH1 God to whom vengeance belongs,
God to whom vengeance belongs, shine forth.
2Rise up, O Judge of the earth.
Pay back the proud what they deserve.
3YAHWEH, how long will the wicked,
How long will the wicked triumph?
4They pour out arrogant words.
All the evil-doers boast.
5They break your people in pieces, YAHWEH,
And afflict your heritage.
6They kill the widow and the alien,
And murder the fatherless.
7They say, “YAH2 will not see,
Neither will Yaqub’s God3 consider.“
8Consider, you senseless among the people;
You fools, when will you be wise?
9He who implanted the ear, won’t he hear?
He who formed the eye, won’t he see?
10He who disciplines the nations, won’t he punish?
He who teaches man knows.
11YAHWEH knows the reasoning of men,
That it is futile.4
12Blessed is the man whom you discipline, YAH,
And teach out of your Taurat;
13That you may give him rest from the days of adversity,
Until the pit is dug for the wicked.
14For YAHWEH will not forsake his people,5
Neither will he reject his inheritance.
15For judgment will return to righteousness.
All the upright in heart shall follow it.
16Who will rise up for me against the wicked?
Who will stand up for me against the evil-doers?
17Unless YAHWEH had been my help,
My soul would have soon lived in silence.
18When I said, “My foot is slipping!“
Your loving kindness, YAHWEH, held me up.
19In the multitude of my thoughts within me,
Your comforts delight my soul.
20Shall the throne of wickedness have fellowship with you,
Which brings about mischief by statute?
21They gather themselves together against the soul of the righteous,
And condemn the innocent blood.
22But YAHWEH has been my high tower,
My God, the rock of my refuge.
23He has brought on them their own iniquity,
And will cut them off in their own wickedness.
YAHWEH, our God, will cut them off.
- 94:1 YAHWEH, the name God revealed to Prophet Musa in the Taurat, Exodus 3:15 – God said moreover to Musa, “You shall tell Bani-Israel this, ‘YAHWEH, the God of your fathers, the God of Ibrahim, the God of Ishaq, and the God of Yaqub, has sent me to you.’ This is my Name forever, and this is how I am to be remembered to all generations.” ↩︎
- 94:7 YAH, abbreviated form of YAHWEH, God’s Name revealed to Prophet Musa (see note above on 94:1). ↩︎
- 94:7 God, English translation of elohim. Elohim (Hebrew) is related to allah (Arabic) and alaha (Syriac), all of which translate as “God,” and refer to the one true God. ↩︎
- 94:11 Quoted in the Injil in 1 Corinthians 3:19-20, which says, “For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, ‘He takes the wise in their own craftiness.’ And again, ‘The LORD knows the reasoning of the wise, that it is futile.’ ↩︎
- 94:14 See the Injil, Romans 11:1-2 which teaches the same truth that God has promised to never utterly reject his chosen people, the Jews, “I ask then, Did God reject his people? May it never be! For I [Apostle Paul] also am an Israelite, a descendant of Ibrahim, of the tribe of Binyamin. God did not reject his people, which he foreknew.” ↩︎
