Zakariyya

This portion of Al-Kitab takes its name from its author, Prophet Zakariyya (pbuh), or Zechariah. There are nearly 40 quotations from this scripture found in the holy Injil. The reason is that this prophecy says much concerning the coming Messiah, ‘Isa al-Masih, even though it was written over 500 years before ‘Isa Ibn Maryam was born. It speaks of how ‘Isa al-Masihwould enter Jerusalem (9:9,10), his betrayal for 30 pieces of silver (11:12,13), his death as the shepherd of his people (13:7), his future return on the Mount of Olives (14:4), and his reign as high priest and king (14:9). This prophet Zakariyya (pbuh) is not to be confused with Zakariyya (pbuh) who was the father of Prophet Yahya (pbuh). The two Zakariyyas lived 500 years apart from each other. The second Zakariyya‘s story is found in the holy Injil in Luke chapter one.
