This portion of Al-Kitab takes its name from its author, Prophet Haggai. The message is simple and clear, “rebuild the Holy House in Jerusalem.” The people who had returned to Jerusalem from exile 16 years before, still had not completed the reconstruction of the Holy House. God sent Prophet Haggai to encourage the people in this work and to rebuke them for their materialism. He also speaks of the coming judgment on the nations who don’t fear God, and the blessings that will be given to those who do fear him. Through the Prophet Haggai, God repeats two significant statements: “I am with you” (1:13; 2:4), and “consider your ways” (1:5,7).
