Zabur 2

1Why do the nations rage,
And the peoples plot a vain thing?

2The kings of the earth take a stand,
And the rulers take counsel together,
Against YAHWEH, and against his MASIH,1 saying,2
3Let us break their bonds apart,
And cast away their cords from us.”

4He who sits in the heavens will laugh.
The Lord will have them in derision.
5Then he will speak to them in his anger,
And terrify them in his wrath:
6Yet I have set my king in Al-Quds,3 my holy hill.”

7I will tell of the decree. YAHWEH said to me,
You are my Son. Today I have become your Father.4
8Ask of me, and I will give the nations for your inheritance,
The ends of the earth for your possession.
9You shall break them with a rod of iron.
You shall dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel.”

10Now therefore be wise, you kings.
Be instructed, you judges of the earth.
11Worship YAHWEH with fear, And rejoice with trembling.
12Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and you perish in the way,
For his wrath will soon be kindled.

Blessed are all those who take refuge in him.

  1. 2:2 MASIH – an Arabic title equivalent to “Messiah” (Hebrew) or “Christ” (Greek), all of which mean “Anointed One,” that is, God’s “Chosen One.” Al-Kitab unanimously points to ‘ISA Ibn Maryam as the only person worthy to bear the title AL-MASIH. He is the one whom God sent into this world to save people from sin. ↩︎
  2. 2:1,2 Quoted in the Injil as part of a prayer by early persecuted followers of ‘ISA AL-MASIH. Acts 4:25-27 says, “…they lifted up their voice to God with one accord, and said, ‘O Lord, you are God, who made the heaven, the earth, the sea, and all that is in them; who by the mouth of your servant, Dawud, said, ‘Why do the nations rage, and the peoples plot a vain thing? The kings of the earth take a stand, and the rulers take counsel together, against GOD, and against his MASIH.’ For truly, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the foreigners and the people of Israel, were gathered together in this city against your holy servant, ‘ISA, whom you ANOINTED.” ↩︎
